Volunteers at RNLI Helvick Head lifeboat station have expressed their gratitude following a recent donation raised at a Literary Evening held in St Paul’s, Ardmore, Co Waterford, on Tuesday 12 August 2025.
The event, which featured talks and refreshments in aid of RNLI and Youghal Union of Parishes, brought the local community together in support of two causes close to home. The evening’s speakers included Tommy Mooney, Tom McCarthy, and Virginia Keane.
Thanks to the generosity of all who attended, over €1,300 was raised on the night, with the proceeds being shared between RNLI Helvick Head and the Youghal Union of Parishes.
Speaking after the event, Kevin O’Morchoe, Hon Chairman RNLI Helvick Fundraising Committee, said:
“We are hugely grateful to the organisers, the speakers, and everyone who attended the Literary Evening in Ardmore. Community support like this is vital in helping our volunteer crew continue their lifesaving work. Every donation makes a real difference, and this wonderful event is a great example of people coming together for a cause that saves lives at sea.”
The RNLI, which is a charity independent of government, depends on voluntary donations and fundraising events to provide its lifesaving service. The volunteer lifeboat crew at Helvick Head are on call 24/7, ready to launch to those in difficulty on the water.
