Dungarvan, Co. Waterford — April 2025 — With the South East coast stretching into longer days and warmer tides, RNLI Helvick is making waves once again — not just at sea, but in the hearts of the local community. Two beloved events are returning to the calendar: the ever-popular International Duck Race and the landmark 30th Anniversary Helvick Swim.
International Duck Race – April 26th
The quirkiest race of the year is back and paddling toward Devonshire Bridge on Saturday, April 26th at 2:30 PM. Hundreds of bright yellow rubber ducks will be released into the water, bobbing and darting toward glory, as spectators cheer on their feathery favourites.
Locals and visitors alike can sponsor a duck for just €3, or double their chances with two ducks for €5. Sponsorships are available now in select shops around Dungarvan and An Rinn, and on race day at a dedicated stall on Davitt’s Quay, near the Dungarvan Harbour Sailing Club.
Prizes await the fastest ducks, but the real win is the support raised for the RNLI’s crucial lifesaving services. Every euro helps keep Helvick’s volunteer crews equipped and ready to respond when lives are on the line.
30th Annual RNLI Helvick Swim – July 6th
Marking an incredible 30 years of courage, community, and open water camaraderie, the RNLI Helvick Swim returns on Sunday, July 6th for a day that blends fitness, fundraising, and fun.
While swimmer registration has now closed, the public is invited to join the celebrations on Helvick Pier, where a full day of festivities awaits. From live music and souvenir stalls to a dog show, raffle, and lively competitions, there’s something for everyone on dry land.
This family-friendly event remains one of the South East’s most cherished fundraisers. Swimmers will take on either a 4km or 2km open water course across Dungarvan Bay, cheered home by the crowd at Helvick Pier.
Every stroke, every step, and every donation makes a difference, helping to sustain the work of RNLI Helvick’s volunteer crew — who remain on call 24/7 to save lives at sea.
