Due to a severe weather forecast, the RNLI Helvick Fundraising Committee has called off planned events for Sunday the 24th of September. The Helvick Swim, BBQ cookout, Dog Show, Raffle, and all other related activities on the pier in Helvick will not proceed. Hurricane Nigel is forecasted to produce a sustained downpour of heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 45kt (51mph) to the south coast of Ireland.
“Unfortunately the weather has not been with us this year” said Seamus Kiersey, hon Secretary of the RNLI Helvick Fundraising Committee. “The swimmers have been very dedicated. We estimate that as a combined total they have swum over 3,600km in preparation for this event. We hope to recognise their efforts with an event of some kind in the near future.”
The raffle is ongoing, and the draw will be rescheduled to a future date to be announced. Raffle tickets cost €3 each or 2 for €5, and can be purchased by contacting one of the committee members. Contact details can be found at rnlihelvickswim.ie/contact. Prizes for the raffle include a 1 night mid week B&B for 2 people at the Cliff House Hotel, a €200 voucher for The Old Bank, Jimmy Choo Sunglasses sponsored by I Eye Opticians, 4 Ball and Carvery at the Gold Coast Resort, 1 night’s Midweek Glamping at Nire Valley Glamping, €100 Gift Voucher from Forde’s Daybreak, and a Double Seaweed Bath at Sólás na Mara.
